Security tightened ahead of PM’s Manipur visit

Imphal, Nov 29: In the wake of the boycott calls and imposition of public curfew in Imphal to torpedo the public functions, the government has tightened security in and around Imphal in general and festival venue where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present for one hour on November 30.

Maoist Communist party and six proscribed underground organisations which had formed the Coordinating Committee (CORCOM) have announced boycott and public curfew. Security has been tightened across the state in view of the forthcoming visit of Narendra Modi. In an hour–long visit to Manipur, the Prime Minister will arrive at Imphal Tulihal International Airport by a helicopter around 3 pm.

On Wednesday, police conducted combing operations at different places in Imphal including Takhel Leikai here along the airport road to foil any attempt by militants to cause disturbances to the Prime Minister’s visit.

BJP Manipur Pradesh told a section of media that the party has geared up to receive Prime Minister Modi at the party office at 4:30 pm on November 30. A grand welcome ceremony has been arranged for Modi at the state BJP office, party general secretary Moirangthem Ashwinikumar said.

He said 200 state BJP leaders will attend the reception ceremony. The BJP leader said issues on health, education and many others confronting Manipur will be raised during the Prime Minister’s visit.
