Reinforce values of indigenous faiths and culture: Pongte

Changlang, Dec 2: Changlang (North) MLA Tesam Pongte called upon the senior citizens to reinforce in the minds of younger generation the value of age-old culture, traditions and indigenous faiths and beliefs.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Indigenous Faith Day celebration at Changlang organized by Changlang unit of Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh today, the MLA called upon elderly persons of the society to encourage the young generation to carry forward and inherit the age-old indigenous faith, culture, and traditions.

“It is the duty and moral responsibility of the young generation to carry forward the rich culture and traditions,” he said. Showing his grave concern over the deteriorating indigenous dialects, he urged the parents to use local dialect during interaction with children at home.

Changlang ZPC explained the necessity of protection, preservation and promotion of indigenous faiths, culture and traditions.

SDO, N Wangjen said that once we lose our culture it will be difficult to revive it. He appealed to all to maintain the culture which has been practicing since time immemorial.

NERCORMP Project Manager said that observing the day only will not serve the purpose unless we take a pledge and come forward to preserve the rich culture. He suggested for introducing traditional dresses in schools once a week and local prayer song in the morning assembly.

Earlier, IFCSAP district unit president NK Longchang highlighted the significance of the day and said the day is celebrated to encourage and remind indigenous people to preserve their own culture, rituals and faith so that it is not lost.

Dr K Yomcha, DRCHO, Thangngam Tangha, Secretary IFCSAP, District Unit, Dangjung Salnang Mungrey, Dr. Jungdang Salnang Mungrey also spoke stressing the need for preservation of indigenous faith and culture.

Earlier, a procession was taken out by the members of IFCSAP, Changlang in the township area starting from Nehru Point to DIET auditorium covering 14 AR camp, Officers’ Colony and Higher Secondary School, Gate with slogans “Loss of culture is loss of Identity”, “Long live Indigenous Faith” etc.
