Decks clears for four new districts in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, March 4: Decks have been cleared for formation of four new districts in Arunachal Pradesh with the assent accorded to the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organisation of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2013 by Governor Lt Gen (Rtd) Nirbhay Sharma.

With the creation of these new district this Frontier State, presently with 17 districts, will have 21 districts. The State Assembly, in its session in March last year, had passed the Bill, paving the way for creation of the four new districts, viz., Kra Daadi, Namsai, Siang and Lower Siang districts.

With the Governor’s assent, a notification in this regard would be issued soon, according to an official communiqué. A happy Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, in a statement this evening, said that people’s aspirations have been fulfilled, at last.

“Ours is a pro-people government. Therefore, all decisions are taken after taking into account the genuineness, necessity and popular demand of the people. Our decisions are not ours, but are of the people,” he said.

Longding, the 17th district of the State, was created last year following popular demand of the people of the area for want of accelerated development and basic amenities. The district today is fast developing with better infrastructure and services in all fields.
