Karimganj, April 1 : In a stern warning to illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Assam and other parts, BJP president Rajnath Singh today made it clear that they will not be “tolerated” and action will be taken against them if his party comes to power, reports PTI.

“If BJP comes to power, we’ll institute an inquiry to find out how so many people of a particular community could enter the country illegally and settle down,” Singh said during a rally at Karimganj in Barak Valley.

“If, however, anybody comes with proper passport, visa or work permit, we have no problem with that, but we cannot accept if they do not go back and settle down here,” the BJP chief said.

People who came from Bangladesh after 1971 and settled in Assam or elsewhere in the country should be treated as illegal migrants, he said.

“Everybody knows that there has been a huge influx of people of a particular community from Bangladesh during the last four decades and certain political parties have patronised them for vote-bank politics,” he said.

“In the case of Hindus being harassed in Bangladesh and forced to flee that country, we cannot treat them as refugees, but must be sympathetic to their cause,” he said.

“BJP does not believe in distinction between different religions or on division of the country on the basis of religion, as was done during the time of independence,” he said.

In Assam, BJP does not make any difference between Hindus and Muslims, but “illegal migrants who are a threat to the indigenous population, will not be tolerated,” he said.

Our Tinsukia Correspondent adds: During the last 10 years, the nation got nothing but scam after scam from the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance. Corruption has plagued the country at every level. Though the Congress ruled the nation for 60 years, but it could not deliver, stated BJP national president Rajnath Singh, at a public meeting which was held at a field near Bishnudham Mandir beside Makum Road here today.

He further added that Assam and the entire North-East region had been neglected by successive Congress governments, but under the BJP government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee, special packages had been allocated for the entire North-East region, he claimed.

He appealed to the people to give his party a chance in the forthcoming election by electing the candidates of the party. In five years the party will deliver the goods in such a manner that it would be remembered by the coming generations. He assured that corruption would be a thing of the past if his party come to power.
