Tripura: Minor rape survivor gets justice after one year

Agartala, February 24: A person was convicted of raping a tribal minor girl after one year of the incident in South District on Monday, court sources said.

“After lapse of one year, the court convicted him on rape- charge. He was arrested immediately after lodging an FIR against him,” a lawyer said.

A local court sent him to seven-year jail custody and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 failing which he would have to undergo additional one month in jail.

Asked about the issue, the lawyer said that the convict namely, Remrachai Mog, a 24-year-old youth raped a minor girl on March 5 in 2014 near a brick kiln where she used to work as a labour.

Later, the victim detailed the incident to her parents who later on, lodged an FIR against him at the local police station. On the basis of the complaint, police took a case against him under Section 376/4(pocso) of Indian Penal Code.

Police arrested him, but he got interim bail for few days. However, the court found him guilty in the case and sent him to judicial custody for seven years.
