Nagaland: 22 people arrested till Monday; Internet and SMS services blocked

Kohima, March 9 : Nagaland Police has said that till Monday morning, 22 people have been arrested in connection with the lynching of a rape accused in Dimapur which ttok place on March 5. Senior Police officials had informed that in order any further tension, internet and SMS services have been blocked till the situation gets normalize.

Video clippings and pictures of the incident is all over the internet and social media platforms due to which danger of communalisation of the issue has increased.

Many of the arrests have taken place on the basis of video footage which has gone viral after the incident.

Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang said that he had taken all the necessary steps to curb down the security tension and said that he had immediately suspended three officials.

At the same time, Zeliang has wriiten a letter to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and informed him about the steps he had taken in this matter. Zeliang has also warned people to not communalise and politicise the issue.

Meanwhile, due to curfew, almost every financial institutions, trading entities and educational institutions were closed on Sunday because of which citizens faced shortage of consumer, medical and other basic essential items.
