Assam Govt ties up with Australia's Curtin University to improve higher education in state

Guwahati, May 17: With a view to promote excellent education in the state, Assam CM Tarun Gogoi on Saturday inaugurated a Centre for Advancement in Education and Research of Curtin University at a function held at the Assam Administrative Staff College.

The Centre which is a collaborative endeavour between the Government of Assam and Curtin University of Australia is aimed at improving the higher education scenario in the State, particularly in the areas of technical education and research.

Gogoi stressed the need for expanding the collaborative partnership to incorporate sectors like agriculture and natural resources to lend credence to the State government’s focus on sustainable development.

Gogoi in his address said that the Centre would fulfil a long-standing need of the region by bringing about a paradigm shift in the higher education sector by facilitating studies in areas like gap analysis, designing curriculum relevant to present-day requirements and the latest trends of research studies., news agency The Assam Tribune reported.

Terming the collaborative agreement with Curtin University a milestone in the field of education, Gogoi said the basic objective of the tie-up was to raise the standard of research and redirect it to the development of the State.

Under the partnership, Curtin University will work collaboratively with the State in developing and implementing world-class Washington Accord-accredited programmes to improve the level of technology, education and research in Assam.
