Dr Syed Ahmad sworn in as 16th Manipur Governor

Imphal, May 17: Manipur got its 16th Governor on Saturday. Former Governor of Jharkhand, Dr Syed Ahmad was sworn in as the 16th Governor of Manipur.

Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dr Syed Ahmad at a solemn ceremony held at Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan. It was followed by an interactive tea party.

In his first address to the local media, the new Governor stated, “I would work towards a more progressive development of the State giving a special focus to the schedule tribes.”

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, former Chief Minister and Member of the Parliament in Rajya Sabha, Rishang Keishing, Member of Parliament, Thangso Baite, Deputy Speaker M K Preshow and other ministers were also present on the occasion, news agency The Imphal Times reported.

Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, DGP Shahid Ahmad and other high ranking civil and police officials were also present at the swearing in ceremony.

This is the third instance of reshuffling Governors since the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government took charge in April 2014.
