Meghalaya CM launches 'Next Generation Network' in Shillong to boost connectivity

Shillong, May 8: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma today launched the Next Generation Network (NGN) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) at U Soso Tham auditorium in Shillong.

Media reported that the NGN is an IP based network which replaces the present wire line telephone officering various facilities seminal to mobile technology.

In the first phase, 4000 telephone lines working from Main Telephone Exchange, Shillong will be replaced by NGN telephone lines.

“With this technology, the customers will now get additional facilities on their telephone including Multimedia, Data, Messaging, Content delivery, Emergency telecommunication, call center and global mobility with improved voice quality and better internet access.

The NGN facility will be extended to major towns of the State. With the introduction of NGN facility, the internet speed can go upto 24 mbps and higher in the near future.
